My research area

My primary interest was in finite groups. This is probably because I was fascinated by the fact that a group, a very constraint, almost impossible thing, could have just a finite number of elements, sometimes very big. As anyone knows, finite groups are either solvable or contain subgroups that are finite versions of reductive algebraic groups.

This is my excuse for having worked mainly on finite reductive groups and their representations. More precisely : modular representations or modular aspects of ordinary representations of finite reductive groups.

Michel Enguehard and I tried to give an introduction to the whole subject in a recent book : "Representation theory of finite reductive groups", Cambridge, 2004. This gathers many results on blocks and representations of those groups, e.g. theorems by Bonnnafé-Rouquier (2003), Broué-Michel (1990), Dipper-James (1992), Gruber-Hiss (1997) and the authors.
